Petition Calls For Homestead Restoration

Point Cook Homestead 2026

In short:

A petition has been launched urging the Victorian Government and Parks Victoria to restore and reopen the historic Point Cook Homestead following years of deterioration and repeated vandalism. The restoration of the 1857 bluestone landmark is also one of Wyndham City Council’s 16 advocacy priorities ahead of the 2026 Victorian election.

Homestead Fight Continues

A petition has been launched calling on the Victorian Government and Parks Victoria to restore and reopen the historic Point Cook Homestead before further deterioration occurs.

The petition urges the State Government to fund urgent restoration works, commit to a long-term restoration plan, activate the Homestead for community use and provide ongoing maintenance to protect the site for future generations.

Supporters say Point Cook Homestead is one of Victoria’s most significant heritage places and has remained closed for too long while falling into disrepair.

They say restoring the Homestead would allow it to once again host community events, education programs, tourism opportunities and other local activities.

The petition comes after the Homestead was again damaged by vandals in 2026, renewing concerns about the future of the historic building.

The latest incident follows a separate vandalism attack in late 2024 that caused significant damage to the property.

Following the 2024 vandalism, the State Government took steps to secure and protect the Homestead.

The Victorian Managed Insurance Authority (VMIA) approved the scope of repair works, including the replacement and repair of windows, frames and doors damaged during the attack.

History Still Waiting For Help

However, even after those repairs are completed, the Homestead is expected to remain boarded up for the foreseeable future.

Built in 1857, the bluestone residence within Point Cook Coastal Park is one of the oldest surviving buildings in the Wyndham region and represents an important part of Melbourne’s west’s history.

The future of the Homestead has also become a key issue ahead of the 2026 Victorian election.

Wyndham City Council has identified the restoration and activation of Point Cook Homestead as one of its 16 advocacy priorities, seeking State Government funding to preserve the historic building and return it to community use.

Council says investment in the site would help protect one of the region’s most significant heritage buildings while allowing the community to develop a long-term vision for its future.

The petition argues that once the Homestead is lost, it cannot be replaced, and calls on the Victorian Government to restore, protect and bring the historic site back to life.
