Second Arrest Made as Armed Crime Squad Investigates Templestowe Lower Incident
Detectives from the Armed Crime Squad have announced the charging of a second individual in connection with an alleged aggravated home invasion that occurred in Templestowe Lower last week. The 43-year-old man from Point Cook is set to appear before the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court this evening.
The charges against the Point Cook resident include:
– Aggravated home invasion (firearm)
– Reckless conduct endangering life
– Intentionally causing serious injury
– Recklessly causing serious injury
– False imprisonment
– Two counts of common law assault
– Use of a firearm contrary to a firearms prohibition order
– Two counts of possession of a prohibited weapon
This development comes after detectives, with assistance from the Special Operations Group, arrested two men on Carlisle Street in Balaclava around 4:30 PM yesterday. The first, a 35-year-old Lalor man, was charged with similar offenses, including possession of cocaine and a controlled weapon. He was remanded to appear at the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on January 4, 2024.
The charges stem from an incident on Thursday, 16 November, when emergency services responded to a break-in and reported gunfire on Linton Avenue just before 1 AM. Four individuals were reportedly at home during the invasion, with a 32-year-old man allegedly assaulted and subsequently hospitalized with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Fortunately, no one else was physically harmed during the incident.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the individuals involved were acquainted with each other. The court proceedings are expected to shed more light on the details surrounding the aggravated home invasion.
