Reyansh Reddy

Rheyansh Reddy’s Meteoric Rise in Chess Sees Him Competing Globally, Supported by Local Community Fundraiser

In the realm of 64 squares, nine-year-old Rheyansh Reddy from Point Cook stands as a formidable force. This young prodigy has swiftly risen through the ranks to challenge and defeat seasoned players, including his older brother Druthin, himself a keen chess enthusiast alongside their mother, Sasirekha.

Rheyansh’s meteoric ascent began in 2018, when he participated in his first competition. His exceptional talent and strategic prowess have since earned him the prestigious title of ‘Candidate Master.’ The chess community has taken notice, dubbing him a ‘superstar’ and the ‘Queen’s Gambit,’ in homage to the popular Netflix series that celebrates youthful genius in chess.

To propel Rheyansh’s quest towards the world championship in Italy later this year, the Hobsons Bay Chess Club is hosting a fundraising event on August 6. This event will feature a simultaneous exhibition match, where Reyansh will demonstrate his skills by playing against multiple opponents simultaneously. Casey Goh, a distinguished instructor at the club, highlights this as a prime opportunity for aspiring young players to test their mettle and gain invaluable experience.

Rheyansh is no stranger to international competition. He made history at the Asian age group championships in Bali, becoming the first Australian in 35 years to clinch a title. In 2023, he showcased his talents on the global stage once again, securing a 10th place finish at the world championships in Batumi, Georgia.

With his keen mind and unwavering dedication, Rheyansh Reddy continues to carve his path in the annals of chess history. His community stands behind him, rallying support as he prepares for his next grand challenge on the world stage.
