A motorcyclist has been apprehended by the police after allegedly exceeding the speed limit by more than double through Hoppers Crossing last night.
During a patrol conducted by the police Air Wing, a Suzuki GSX750 was observed traveling at twice the designated speed limit of 100km/h on the Princes Freeway in Hoppers Crossing at approximately 8.40pm.
The police helicopter positioned itself overhead to monitor the situation while providing guidance to ground units in tracking down the rider. The motorcyclist was reported to have reached speeds of up to 230km/h.
Unknowingly the rider unwittingly led the police directly to his location. He stopped and entered a residence on Hook Street in Altona Meadows, where the authorities promptly arrested the 31-year-old individual.
The motorcycle, which was not registered and had counterfeit license plates, was impounded by the police.
The Altona Meadows resident is facing multiple charges, including endangering lives through his conduct, speeding, riding while disqualified, and other traffic-related offences.
He has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
