Suspect at large after police storm Point Cook apartment
Police have raided an apartment on Waterhaven Boulevard following a collision in Point Cook earlier today, which left a police officer requiring hospital treatment.
The incident unfolded just before 1 pm when officers located two individuals asleep in a stolen Mazda CX9 on Sneydes Road. As police attempted to wake the male driver, he resisted, accelerating into a parked police vehicle before reversing. In the process, the driver’s side door struck a First Constable, knocking him to the ground, with the vehicle running over him before speeding away.
During the commotion, a female passenger fled the scene on foot. The injured officer was transported to Werribee Mercy Hospital, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Shortly after, police found the damaged Mazda in Catalina Court and continued gathering evidence while patrolling the area. Officers set up at a nearby service station before raiding an apartment block on Waterhaven Boulevard. As police arrived, a person sped away from the scene on a dirt bike. Officers pursued the rider but returned soon after.
With the assistance of the Westgate Alliance Taskforce, the alleged driver was arrested at a property on Campaspe Way in Point Cook about 8am this morning.
He is currently being interviewed by police.
