Arrests made in relation to this weekend’s CBD protest:
Police have arrested two males following an investigation into those responsible for organising a large gathering of people in the CBD on Sunday, in breach of the Chief Health Officer’s directions.
Two search warrants were executed yesterday evening (6 August) in Mooroolbark and Chirnside Park, where police seized mobile phones and a computer.
As a result, a 41-year-old male from Mooroolbark was charged with incitement. He was bailed and is due to appear at the Melbourne Magistrates Court on 21 January 2021.
A 41-year-old male from Chirnside Park was also arrested last night, but was released with intent to summons. He is expected to be charged later today with the same offences.
Background on offence: Under Section 321G of the Crimes Act 1958, incitement is an offence whereby a person in Victoria, or elsewhere, incites any other person to pursue a course of conduct which will involve the commission of an offence.
