Every year , some of the people of Wyndham gather in anticipation of the annual Lyrid meteor shower, an event that is visible worldwide.
As one of the oldest recorded meteor showers, the Lyrid meteors have been observed for over 2,500 years and are sure to provide an amazing experience for all who take the time to watch.
From April 15 to 29, the meteors will be visible across the sky, and the peak of the shower will take place on April 22 and 23. During peak hours, up to 20 meteors can be seen per hour! Even outside those peak hours, you can still spot the occasional flash of light or cluster of meteors.
To get the most out of the experience, make sure to rug up and head outside at 1am AEST on April 23. You won‘t need any special equipment or astronomical skills – just give your eyes a few minutes to adjust to the darkness.
The Lyrid meteors are quite fast, but they are also surprisingly bright – so be prepared to have your mind blown!
