A new push for public radiation therapy services in or near Werribee is being announced today, with both major parties being asked to make a commitment ahead of the November state election.
The Western Public Radiation Therapy Network is calling for a new public radiation therapy service to be delivered at or near the Werribee Mercy Public Hospital precinct within the next term of government.
It also wants a clear implementation plan and timeframe for when the service would be delivered.
The proposal is aimed at improving access to public radiation therapy for cancer patients across Melbourne’s growing outer west, including Werribee, Tarneit, Point Cook, Melton and Lara.
The network brings together medical professionals, GPs and former cancer patients with experience of Victoria’s health system and communities across the west.
Dr Mukesh Haikerwal AC and cancer patients will advocate for the proposal as the Better Cancer Care campaign begins today.
The campaign is seeking a commitment from both major parties before the Victorian state election in November, putting the future of public radiation therapy access in Melbourne’s outer west on the election agenda.
