Wyndham councillors may receive quarterly reports reviewing confidential decisions, with recommendations on what can be made public. The move follows unanimous support for greater transparency led by Cr Jasmine Hill.
Move Intended to Enhance Transparency
Wyndham councillors are set to receive regular updates on confidential decisions under a proposed transparency change to be considered at the 28 April 2026 council meeting.
A report prepared by CEO Stephen Wall recommends introducing a quarterly report that reviews confidential council resolutions and advises which decisions can be made public.
The quarterly updates would include recommendations from the CEO on whether decisions should remain confidential or be released in full, with councillors required to formally resolve any public release.
The change stems from a motion put forward by Cr Jasmine Hill in March 2025, which received unanimous support from councillors and called for greater transparency around in-camera decisions.
Cr Hill followed this up a year later with another notice of motion on 24 March 2026.
Under the proposed process, all confidential resolutions would be reviewed against criteria including legal, privacy and commercial risks, as well as the public interest in disclosure.
If adopted, any material deemed suitable for release would be published on council’s website as part of meeting minutes.
The first quarterly report is scheduled to be presented to councillors on 28 July 2026.
