For Muslims, Ramadan is a time of fasting, prayer, and reflection. Throughout the month, they refrain from food and drink during daylight hours, believing it brings them closer to God and strengthens their discipline. As the sun sets, they break their fast with Iftar, a meal often shared with family and friends. The market provided a variety of halal food stalls, offering dishes from Middle Eastern, South Asian, and African cultures, as well as traditional Ramadan drinkslike spiced teas and fresh juices.
Retail stalls offered Islamic clothing, home decor, books, and accessories, many of which hold religious or cultural significance, especially as preparations begin for Eid, the festival that marks the end of Ramadan. The market was a lively space where families gathered to shop, eat, and enjoy the atmosphere.
A key part of Ramadan is prayer, and a dedicated space was set up at the Al-Taqwa Sports Complex for Isha and Taraweeh prayers. Muslims believe these prayers help them grow spiritually, seek forgiveness, and strengthen their faith. Isha is one of the five daily prayers, while Taraweeh is a special prayer only performed during Ramadan, often in congregation, with extended recitations from the Quran, which they consider the word of God.
The night market was not only a chance for Muslims to celebrate their faith but also an opportunity for others to experience Ramadan traditions, food, and community life firsthand.
