A 74-year-old man has been arrested in the ongoing fraud investigation into Geelong’s genU.
Detectives from the Financial Crime Squad arrested a second man yesterday in connection with their investigation into suspected fraudulent activity involving the Geelong-based not-for-profit organisation genU.
The 74-year-old man from Leopold was taken into custody in Geelong on Thursday, 5 September. He was questioned by police and later released as enquiries continue.
Last month, police executed a warrant at a Newtown residential address. A 57-year-old man from Newtown was interviewed on 1 August and also released pending further enquiries.
The investigation began in February 2023 after the organisation reported concerns about suspicious activity, including accounts being wrongfully charged to genU. The fraudulent activity is believed to have taken place over a five-year period, involving several million dollars.
Detectives have obtained financial and business records from genU, which are still undergoing forensic examination.
Investigators are seeking to speak to anyone who may have information about the case or those involved. Information can be provided anonymously.
