Community Centre Gets Lifeline

Wyndham City Council says The Grange Community Centre in Hoppers Crossing will reopen in the coming weeks under new interim management, after it abruptly shut down last month.

The sudden closure left local families, community groups and regular users without access to programs, meeting spaces and services, prompting the council to move to restore operations at the site.

Community organisation Quantin Binnah has now been appointed to deliver services on a temporary basis while the council undertakes a process to find a long-term operator for the centre.

During the shutdown, council-run Kindergarten and Maternal and Child Health (MCH) services based within The Grange building continued to operate as usual, with no disruption.

Under the interim arrangement, Quantin Binnah will run community support programs, Out of Hours School Care and occasional care, while also coordinating room bookings so local groups and residents can return to using the centre for activities, meetings and events.

This is expected to lead to the restoration of many services for the local community that were impacted by the closure.

The council says the organisation has experience delivering similar programs, but the setup is only a stopgap while a permanent provider is sought.

A timeline for when specific services will resume has not been confirmed, with further updates expected in the coming weeks as arrangements are finalised.
