In a row over barking dogs, a 26-year-old man died after being shot in the chest at his home.
Jason Lee Ashman was sentenced to six years imprisonment today for the shooting death of his step daughter’s neighbour, autistic man, Dwayne Wright.
The incident occurred on Civic Parade in Altona at around 10.30am on December 23rd 2018 when an argument broke out between Mr. Wright and Jemma Chumbley after Mr Wright complained about her dogs barking.
The argument escalated, threats ensued, then Ashman arrived, armed with an unregistered shotgun, and shot Mr Wright in the chest.
Ashman then put the gun in a bag which was carried in the footwell of the car that Ms Chumbley drove to her boyfriend’s house in Point Cook, her stepdad and sisters were in the car.
Ashman pleaded guilty to manslaughter and the weapon has never been found.
