Camila Paz’s murals celebrate culture and unity in Tarneit.
Two murals, Threads of Belonging and Whispers of the Land, now adorn the exterior walls of Penrose Promenade Community Centre in Tarneit. Created by local artist Camila Paz, the murals reflect the diversity and cultural richness of the community.
As part of the project, Paz conducted creative workshops with children, parents, and community members at the centre, gaining insight into the space and its users. The murals depict individuals from various backgrounds, aiming to celebrate Tarneit’s vibrancy and strengthen community connections.

According to Paz, the artworks are inspired by the people of the area and serve as a tribute to their stories and heritage. Threads of Belonging, located on the Turva Avenue-facing wall, and Whispers of the Land, facing Penrose Promenade, symbolise unity, respect, and equality. The artist employed a bold yet minimalistic style, incorporating figures that are both culturally identifiable and open to interpretation. A dynamic colour palette enhances the sense of connection within the community.

Originally from Chile, Paz migrated to Australia and has now completed her first large-scale mural project. Supported by MAMAM, an experienced mural production team, the initiative provided the artist with an opportunity to expand her skills.
The project was delivered as part of the Wyndham City Public Art Plan 2022-2032.
