Works expected to ease traffic congestion
Construction is set to commence this month on the Tarneit Road and Leakes Road intersection upgrade in Tarneit, following Wyndham City’s awarding of the $10.5 million construction contract. The project is a priority for the city’s Connecting Wyndham initiative, aiming to duplicate the intersection to accommodate growing traffic and minimize disruptions.

The upgrade includes the installation of new traffic lights and an expansion of the intersection’s capacity, enhancing traffic flow and safety. Additionally, the project will introduce both on-road and off-road cycling lanes to improve cyclist safety and connectivity.
Wyndham City Mayor, Cr Mia Shaw, highlighted the significance of the project, stating, “The Tarneit Road and Leakes Road intersection is a vital connection in Wyndham’s road network. This important upgrade will significantly improve turning capacity at this intersection as well as overall traffic flow, making it easier for our community to travel around Tarneit and neighbouring suburbs.”
Mayor Shaw also emphasized that the project has been prioritized due to its substantial impact on road safety and traffic congestion, a decision based on thorough analysis and community feedback.
