Station to include platforms, parking, cycling, and bus access
Final designs for the new West Tarneit Station have been released, giving residents a clear view of what to expect from the long-awaited transport upgrade between Tarneit and Wyndham Vale.
Situated on the Geelong Line, the station will feature two platforms, an accessible pedestrian underpass, a 400-space car park, and a four-bay bus interchange. Cyclists will benefit from a 26-space Parkiteer bike cage and 30 bicycle hoops positioned near the main entrance.
A new connecting road from Leakes Road will provide access to the southern side of the station, with traffic lights to be installed at Heartlands Boulevard.
The station is designed to meet the demands of a growing population, with capacity for extra train tracks and future parking expansion north of the site. A landscaped precinct will include 17,000 native trees, dedicated seating areas, and separate pedestrian and cycling paths running on both sides of the rail line.
The new bus interchange will support a fresh route linking West Tarneit Station with Tarneit Station, servicing Tarneit North. Route 182 will also be re-aligned to include the new station on its path.
The addition of this new station is expected to ease congestion at nearby Tarneit Station, which currently services almost two million passengers annually, making it the busiest regional station in Victoria outside of Southern Cross.
The final design follows community consultation, which highlighted a desire for a modern, accessible, and colourfully landscaped station precinct. Major construction is expected to begin in 2026.
