A 15 Year Old Died at the Scene
Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives have charged a teenage boy following a fatal crash in Hoppers Crossing.
With assistance from the Critical Incident Response Team, detectives arrested a 17-year-old from the Wyndham area on 14 March. He has since been charged with culpable driving causing death and other driving offences.
The boy was remanded in custody and will appear before a Children’s Court.
The charges follow a fatal collision that occurred just after 12am on 13 March.
Police allege a stolen grey Skoda sedan was pursuing a Toyota sedan at speed along Derrimut Road in what investigators believe may have been an attempted carjacking.
Investigators allege the Skoda deliberately collided with the rear of the Toyota before crashing into a Ford sedan and a Ford Ranger.
The Skoda, which had seven teenage occupants inside, rolled before coming to rest in the front yard of a nearby residence.
The 15-year-old boy was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene.
The front passenger, a 16-year-old girl from the Wyndham area, sustained serious injuries and remains in hospital.
A third occupant, a 16-year-old girl from the Wyndham area, was arrested, interviewed, and released pending further investigation.
A fourth occupant, a 14-year-old boy from the Wyndham area, later presented to a nearby hospital where he was arrested.
He was interviewed by investigators and remanded on matters not related to the collision.
The fifth and sixth occupants of the vehicle fled the scene, and investigators are working to determine their identities.
Police also located and seized an edged weapon at the scene, along with a quantity of alcohol inside the vehicle.
The Skoda is alleged to have been stolen from Yellow Box Street in Maidstone sometime between 11 March and 12 March.
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision remains ongoing.
