15-Year-Old Arrested After Fatal Stabbing at Woodgrove Shopping Centre, Investigation Ongoing
A 16-year-old boy has been tragically stabbed to death during an argument outside Woodgrove Shopping Centre in Melton West. The altercation, which occurred at approximately 11:50am on Tuesday, escalated after two teenage boys became involved in a verbal dispute.
It is alleged that a 15-year-old boy produced a knife and fatally stabbed the 16-year-old “several times” near La Porchetta, in front of shocked onlookers. A bystander attempted to perform CPR, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 15-year-old suspect, from Melton West, was arrested later that afternoon and is currently being interviewed by Homicide Squad detectives. Police have confirmed that the boys knew each other, and that there are no known links to youth gangs in the area. The weapon used in the attack has not yet been recovered.
Police have also released a description of the suspect from earlier reports, stating that he has almost shoulder-length dark, curly hair, and was last seen wearing dark clothing, headphones, and carrying a backpack. He allegedly fled the scene towards High Street after the attack.
Shopping centre security footage captured the incident, and it will be reviewed as part of the investigation. The victim’s mother is assisting investigators, and police have increased their presence in the area to ensure community safety.
This stabbing is part of a troubling pattern of violent incidents at the shopping centre, with detectives continuing to piece together the exact circumstances.
