Local Streets Swarmed by Police in Frenzied Chase; Community on Edge as Canine Units Deployed

Last night in Tarneit, five teenagers were apprehended following a carjacking incident. It is reported that a group of youths boarded a rideshare Mercedes SUV on Cloverdale Road around 11 pm.

The journey took them to Wilandra Drive, where one passenger got out of the vehicle, approached the driver’s side, and assaulted the driver.The assailants then forced the driver from the car, commandeered the SUV, and escaped.

The 62-year-old driver from Point Cook suffered minor injuries and received medical attention at a hospital. Police patrolling in Point Cook later spotted the stolen vehicle and initiated a pursuit, which included support from the Air Wing.

Two teenage girls were observed leaving the vehicle on The Strand and were soon arrested.

The chase continued to Woolybush Drive in Tarneit, where the five culprits abandoned the vehicle and attempted to escape on foot. With the help of a canine unit, three of the suspects were quickly located and taken into custody at the scene.

During the arrest, a 16-year-old boy from Point Cook was bitten by a police dog and required hospital treatment.

All five are now in custody, aiding police with their investigations.

A concerned parent near Lillyturf Drive reported seeing numerous police cars and a sniffer dog in action, highlighting the intense police response that alarmed the community.
