Jaloodh Nijamudeen shines as Truganina United secures the title with a breathtaking chase and powerful finish in the 31st over.
In a thrilling showdown, Truganina United Cricket Club (TUCC) clinched the Premiership title with a stellar performance against Altona Sports Cricket Club (ASCC).
Opting to chase after winning the toss, TUCC began their campaign with disciplined bowling from openers Nitish Roni and Prasad Shivu. Jazeer Nijamudeen struck early, claiming the first wicket of the day with his sixth delivery. Despite a steady partnership from ASCC, Hamza Ali and Cadhoomy Nijamudeen turned the tide, delivering two crucial breakthroughs in consecutive overs with their spin bowling. Cadhoomy added another wicket to his tally shortly after, while Prasad made a significant impact in the 28th over, taking two pivotal wickets. Roni and Jazeer closed out the innings with a wicket each, but a few missed chances in the field allowed ASCC to post a target of 233 runs.
In response, TUCC’s openers, Haroon and Cadhoomy Nijamudeen, laid a solid foundation. Jaloodh Nijamudeen then took centre stage, retiring with an unbeaten half-century. Sharaqh Ibad kept the momentum going with a blistering 53 not out off 47 balls. Prasad added a rapid 41 from 36 deliveries, keeping TUCC in contention before Rajesh Gajendran and Terrence D’Souza sealed the victory with three consecutive sixes in the 31st over.
The entire team was congratulated for their outstanding efforts, with Jaloodh Nijamudeen being named Man of the Final for his exceptional all-round performance as an opening batsman and spin bowler.
This Premiership win caps off a season marked by fantastic team spirit and self-sacrifice, with special recognition given to Imad Jameel for his invaluable contributions both on and off the field.
