Unsuccessful Break-In at Tarneit Central Post Box, No Mail Affected

Ballot integrity

Australia Post confirms that no mail was compromised during an attempted break-in at the Tarneit Central post box.

A red street post box at Tarneit Central shopping centre was the target of an unsuccessful break-in attempt, according to a statement from an Australia Post spokesperson. The post box, which serves as one of the primary after-hours postal facility for Tarneit North and West, has since been repaired.

Australia Post has confirmed that no mail was affected by the incident, and all letters are safely on their way to their intended destinations. This news comes as a relief to voters in the Brinbeal and Wimba Wards, many of whom rely on the Tarneit Central post box to lodge their postal ballots outside of regular business hours.

Although the damage has been fixed, the incident highlights ongoing concerns about the accessibility of postal services in Tarneit, particularly in the lead-up to local elections. The street post box at Wyndham Village Shopping Centre is the only other place available for mail drop-off after hours.

With no impact on the ballots, residents can rest assured that their votes remain secure. However, local voters continue to call on the Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC) to ensure that the integrity of the election is upheld, urging the VEC to provide clear guidance on safe and secure voting options for the community.
