V/Line Services Suspended Due to Telstra Outage

In short:

A nationwide Telstra outage has forced V/Line to suspend regional train services, including the Geelong line through Wyndham. Replacement coaches are running from Southern Cross Station but are described as “very limited,” with no estimated time for services to resume.

Telstra fault halts trains

Victoria’s regional train network has ground to a halt this morning after a radio network error linked to a nationwide Telstra outage, with the Geelong line, which runs through Wyndham Vale and Little River , among the services affected.

V/Line suspended services across the Bendigo, Seymour, Gippsland, Geelong and Ballarat lines on Wednesday morning as the outage took down the radio systems trains rely on to run.

“This has resulted in significant impacts to our passengers this morning with no trains able to run on the network,” a V/Line spokesperson said.

Replacement coaches are running from Southern Cross Station, but V/Line has warned that capacity on these services is “very limited,” leaving many commuters facing long delays or no alternative at all.

V/Line said there is “no estimated time for rectification” and has urged passengers to defer travel where possible while the outage continues. This comes not long after Wyndham commuters faced disruption on the Werribee, Williamstown and Geelong lines during the Metro Tunnel works earlier this month.
