The organisation will be headed by a Coordinator General and two deputies, appointed through an independent selection process.

Body Will Provide Advice, Not Make Decisions
What remains less clear is how much practical influence the new body will have.
Despite being described as independent, its role will largely involve advising and reporting to government rather than making policy itself. Government departments and elected ministers will retain responsibility for final decisions.
The legislation also creates another dedicated entity within Victoria’s existing multicultural framework, raising a broader question about whether a new organisation will produce substantially different outcomes or add another layer to the state’s administration.
In practical terms, the reform gives multicultural and multifaith issues a more formal channel into government and greater oversight across departments.
Whether that translates into meaningful changes for communities will depend on how the new body operates after 1 October.
