The Victorian government has pledged $3.9 million to support the live music industry in the state. According to Creative Industries Minister Colin Brooks, this investment is a demonstration of the government’s commitment to the vital creative sector of Victoria.
The funding package will benefit various aspects of the live music industry, including festival organizers, venues, and artists. One of the initiatives is The Victorian Gig Fund, which will provide financial support to over 140 live music venues across the state to pay local musicians for their performances.
In addition, the Music Works grants have been allocated $1 million to support 92 music projects involving 600 industry professionals. This will give both emerging and established artists the opportunity to advance in their careers.
Moreover, the Live Music Festivals Fund will offer up to $50,000 to 22 festivals in the state to help them organize new or existing events. Minister Brooks stated that this financial support will strengthen the local industry and help it overcome the challenges it faces.
The funds will be delivered by Music Victoria on behalf of the state government, who has set aside $35.4 million in the 2023/24 budget to support the live music industry at all levels and in all parts of the state.
