Community Safety Initiative Ensures Safe Summer Enjoyment at Popular Werribee South Beach
In Wyndham City, ensuring the safety of the community remains a top priority. For the fourth consecutive year, a partnership has been established with Life Saving Victoria (LSV) to deploy lifeguards at Werribee South Beach throughout the summer season.
From Tuesday, December 26, to Sunday, January 28, 2024, LSV lifeguards will be on duty from 11:30 am to 6:30 pm. Their presence aims to guarantee the safety of individuals, their families, and friends as they enjoy the warmer weather by the beach. The popularity of Werribee South Beach has grown steadily each year, mirroring the increasing population of Wyndham.
Regular beach maintenance contributes to its inviting atmosphere, with some beachgoers setting up shade tents and enjoying picnics. However, the main beach area currently has only one public toilet, which might benefit from an upgrade. Additionally, a local cafe provides reasonably priced food and drinks.
Cr Susan McIntyre, Wyndham City’s Community Safety portfolio holder, emphasized the importance of enhancing safety measures at Werribee South Beach. This includes the placement of ‘red and yellow flags’ and the implementation of LSV water safety programs. These measures are intended to create a secure and enjoyable experience for both residents and visitors.
Cr McIntyre explained, “The red and yellow flags are the most important signs on the beach – they mark the safest place to swim. Council knows the importance for the community to feel safe while they are enjoying a day of what Wyndham has to offer and we are excited that we can offer Werribee South Beach as a supervised place to swim these summer holidays.”
