VIDEO: Air Conditioner Believed to Have Caused Point Cook House Fire

Approximately 14 FRV firefighters responded to a house fire in Point Cook on Thursday morning.

FRV and CFA crews were called to the Bergamot Drive incident just after 5:00am, after a caller to Triple Zero (000) reported flames issuing from a single storey brick residence.

Firefighters arrived on scene in four minutes to find a fire in the building’s roof space.

Four occupants of the home had safely evacuated prior to FRV’s arrival.

Wearing breathing apparatus, firefighters gained access to the roof and worked to attack the fire. The incident was declared under control at 5:17am.

Crews remained on scene for some time afterwards to ensure it was safe, before handing it over to Victoria Police.

An FRV spokesperson said “At this stage, it’s believed the fire may have started in an air conditioning unit.”
