Wayne Sperling takes home the Region 6 Award, with three Wyndham supervisors recognized among the finalists.
As the new school term begins, Wyndham City celebrates a significant achievement: school crossing supervisor Wayne Sperling has been honoured with the Region 6 Award for School Crossing Supervisor of the Year 2023/2024. Sperling, along with his colleagues Emma Taylor and Karolynne Ford, were among the finalists representing Wyndham in this prestigious category.
This year marked Sperling’s second nomination, highlighting his dedication and commitment. He was among 38 nominees from Wyndham City, the largest representation in the state, demonstrating the high calibre of crossing supervisors in the community. Their efforts are greatly appreciated by both parents and children, underscoring the vital role they play in school safety.
The awards serve as a platform to recognize the dedication of these individuals who, regardless of weather conditions, ensure the safety of children and residents as they travel to and from school. This recognition highlights the significance of their role, established in 1973, to prevent accidents and protect children near schools.
School crossing supervisors play an essential part in maintaining safe passages at school gates and encouraging drivers to be cautious in school zones. Their work not only promotes safety but also fosters a sense of community and care among residents and students.
Congratulations to all the nominees, and gratitude to everyone who participated in the nomination process. Let’s continue to work together to keep children safe at the school gate.
