The Werribee Library will be temporarily closed to the public from 2 September until early 2025 as construction ramps up for an exciting $7.4 million upgrade of the Wyndham Cultural Centre.
According to Wyndham City Mayor, Councillor Jennie Barrera, the closure is necessary for critical works to be carried out within the library as part of the larger Cultural Centre upgrade project. She stated, “Werribee Library will be closed for longer than originally anticipated due to the impact that construction to date has had on day-to-day operations.”
During the closure, a shuttle service will be provided from Werribee Library to the Hoppers Crossing Library at Pacific Werribee between 10am-4.30pm, Monday to Saturday. The returns chute at Werribee Library will also remain open during this time.
While the Werribee Library is closed, all other libraries in the area will remain open. Additionally, residents can access a wide range of digital resources for free through Wyndham’s eLibrary, including eBooks, eAudiobooks, eMagazines, movies, and TV shows.
The Wyndham Cultural Centre upgrade, which is being delivered with a $3 million funding contribution from the Victorian Government’s Growing Suburbs Fund, aims to transform the space and better meet the needs and expectations of exhibiting artists, audiences, and the broader community.
The project will relocate and revamp gallery spaces, provide a new collection space for the visual art collection, and modernize and refresh the bar, foyer, and amenities. It will also include a direct entry into Werribee Library from Wedge Street. Cr Barrera emphasized the importance of this upgrade, stating, “This upgrade is crucial to reflect the different ways art is made and enjoyed in the 21st century.”
