A 30-year-old man apprehended after alleged break-ins resulted in theft of nearly $10,000 worth of parcels over three months
A 30-year-old Werribee man has been apprehended in connection with a string of post office burglaries in Wyndham spanning the last three months, resulting in the theft of parcels valued at nearly $10,000.
Members of the Wyndham Crime Investigation Unit conducted four search warrants across Wyndham last Monday, targeting locations linked to the alleged break-ins of two post offices in Werribee and Point Cook. These incidents reportedly occurred five times between September and October of this year.
The arrest took place during the search of the suspect’s residence in Werribee. The individual is now facing charges related to five counts of burglary and the possession of a controlled substance, believed to be a drug of dependence.
Authorities suspect that the arrested individual may have been involved in selling the stolen contents of the parcels abroad.
The accused from Werribee is currently in custody and is scheduled to appear before the Sunshine Magistrates’ Court on December 7.
In a broader operation, police executed three additional search warrants in Werribee and Hoppers Crossing as part of the ongoing investigation. During these operations, six individuals were arrested for unrelated offences. Four of them, aged between 28 and 55, were remanded due to outstanding warrants for various offences, including burglary.
Another individual was released pending a summons, facing allegations related to firearm and drug offences. Additionally, a person was cautioned for the possession of cannabis.
Authorities encourage anyone with information regarding criminal activities to reach out to Crime Stoppers at 1800 333 000 or submit a report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
