Werribee man among three charged after south-east pursuit
A 28-year-old Werribee man is one of three men charged after a hit-run collision and police pursuit through Melbourne’s south-eastern suburbs on Tuesday 25 August 2026.
Police were called to a three-vehicle collision on Beach Road in Black Rock about 8.50am. A stolen Toyota 86, taken from St Kilda, fled the scene before being abandoned on Bluff Road, where officers recovered an imitation firearm and stolen clothing from inside the car.
Moorabbin Crime Investigation Unit detectives then located a stolen Subaru WRX nearby. After deploying stopsticks, police pursued the vehicle until it was abandoned at a shopping centre on Nepean Highway in Cheltenham. Two men were arrested in the area, while a third was detained after allegedly shoplifting in an attempt to evade police.
All three allegedly had on-board diagnostic (OBD) devices in their possession — tools increasingly linked to car theft, an issue WyndhamTV has reported on before in Warning of Rising OBD Car Thefts.
Werribee man faces string of charges
The Werribee man has been charged with dangerous driving while pursued by police, motor vehicle theft, drink driving, theft, and bail offences.
A 31-year-old Toorak man was charged with motor vehicle theft, leaving the scene of an accident, drink driving, prohibited possession of an imitation firearm, and bail offences. A 21-year-old Tecoma man was charged with motor vehicle theft and committing an indictable offence while on bail.
All three are scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
