The incident occurred on Saturday, 30 November. The suspect attempted to grab the cash from the victim’s hand, but was unsuccessful. According to police reports, the suspect then tried to strike the victim with an axe, but missed. Despite the violence of the encounter, the victim was not physically harmed.

After the failed robbery, the suspect fled the scene on foot. In an effort to assist their investigation, police have released CCTV footage and images of a man they believe may be connected to the crime. The man is described as Caucasian, in his 30s, of medium build, and with a short dark beard. At the time of the incident, he was wearing a black ‘Post Modern’ jacket, a light blue shirt with a dark tie, light blue jeans, a black baseball cap, black shoes, and a black bum bag. He was also seen with a dark canvas shopping trolley.

Authorities also believe that the same man may be linked to another incident that took place the following day in Hoppers Crossing. On Sunday, 1 December, a staff member at a store on Heaths Road offered to assist a man who subsequently produced a hammer at around 11.20am. The man threatened the staff member, a 47-year-old man from Aintree, before stealing items and fleeing the scene. The staff member was not physically harmed.

Anyone with information about the incidents, CCTV or dashcam footage, or who may have witnessed the crimes, is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 1800 333 000 or online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
