Werribee Museum has moved into the Bluestone Manse after Council required it to vacate the Old Shire Offices. A GoFundMe is now raising funds to support the museum’s transition and reopening in its new Werribee location.
Volunteers sought for packing and setup
The Werribee Museum has officially found a new home, moving into the iconic Bluestone Manse at 21 Duncans Road, Werribee.
Built in 1884, the historic building now becomes the base for preserving and showcasing the region’s stories and heritage. The museum says the Manse’s character and rich history make it a perfect fit for their collection.
The move comes after Wyndham City Council recently gave the museum notice to vacate its former home at the Old Shire Offices. Council advised that the group could apply to return once a $750,000 refurbishment of the building was completed.
In the meantime, the Bluestone Manse offers a much-needed opportunity for continuity.
“We are so grateful to Werribee Uniting for making this possible,” the museum said in a Facebook post. “Our dream of finding a suitable home has now become a reality.”
While the move is cause for celebration, relocating an entire museum is a major task requiring time, effort and funding. A public GoFundMe campaign has been launched to support the transition and help prepare the Manse for community use.
Volunteers are also being sought to assist with packing, cleaning, and setting up the new space, with the Manse currently requiring a “spring clean” after a period of vacancy.
The museum says it’s looking forward to a grand reopening and continuing its mission to preserve and share the stories of Werribee’s past.
