Alarm triggers evacuation at Lancemore Mansion Hotel
A candle left burning on a table in the spa basement of the Lancemore Mansion Hotel at Werribee Park sparked a fire this morning, forcing 25 people to evacuate.
The alarm activated at the hotel’s loading dock at 8.34am, with the caller reporting smoke and flames visible. On arrival, CFA crews found smoke showing in the spa basement.
The internal sprinkler system quickly activated, containing the fire to a small room in the spa area. Firefighters extracted the smoke and confirmed there was both smoke and water damage to the room.
Eight CFA vehicles attended, supported by Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) crews. The blaze was brought under control by 9am and the site declared safe by 10.30am.
“All 25 people inside the building evacuated safely, and thanks to the sprinkler system the fire was kept to one room,” a CFA spokesperson said.
The cause of the fire has been confirmed as accidental.
