Construction Has Kicked Off
Pedestrians are set to benefit from three new and upgraded crossings in and around the Werribee City Centre, with construction scheduled to begin on 20 July 2026.
The works form part of the Rediscover Werribee City Centre program and are funded through the Victorian Government’s Safe Local Roads and Streets Program.
The project includes a new pedestrian crossing with flashing lights on Watton Street between Wedge and Werribee streets, an upgrade to the existing Watton Street crossing between Duncans Road and Cherry Street with flashing lights, and a new pedestrian crossing at the Wyndham Park entrance on Comben Drive.
The crossings are intended to improve safety for pedestrians, enhance accessibility and help slow vehicle speeds through one of Werribee’s busiest retail and civic precincts.
The improvements are expected to benefit shoppers, commuters, visitors and people accessing nearby parks and public facilities.
The works continue a series of upgrades being delivered under the broader Rediscover Werribee City Centre program, which aims to improve the precinct for residents, businesses and visitors.
Earlier stages of the program included streetscape improvements along Duncans Road, with upgraded footpaths, drainage, landscaping, traffic signals and new public furniture designed to create a more pedestrian-friendly streetscape.
The project also retained the area’s historic Kurrajong trees following heritage and arborist assessments.
Construction has been staged across the wider city centre program to minimise disruption where possible, although motorists and pedestrians can expect temporary traffic management measures and changed conditions while the crossing works are completed.
