Werribee South Beach Set for Transformation with Ambitious Master Plan for Enhanced Amenities and Accessibility
Werribee South Beach is set to undergo a remarkable upgrade as the Werribee South Beach Master Plan has been adopted by Wyndham City. This visionary plan aims to rejuvenate the beach area, making it more welcoming and enjoyable for visitors through a series of enhancements to amenities and accessibility.
The key features of the plan encompass various improvements, including the enhancement of the Wyndham Bay Trail. This will involve the construction of an elevated boardwalk set back from Beach Road, as well as the creation of a shared user path connecting Grahams Wetland Reserve and Wyndham Harbour. Additionally, new solar lighting will be installed along the length of the Werribee South Bay Trail.
The master plan also incorporates exciting additions such as a wetland deck overlooking the picturesque Werribee River, a fishing deck and seating area, and an upgraded and expanded playground. To enhance the beach experience, additional BBQ and picnic facilities will be provided, alongside new public toilets equipped with facilities for people with disabilities. Accessible beach matting will also be introduced along the main beach shoreline.
The implementation of the plan will be carried out in stages, with the first stage focusing on the Bay Trail improvements, wetland deck, new fishing platform, and a designated off-lead beach area for dogs.
Wyndham City Mayor Susan McIntyre expressed her enthusiasm for the project, emphasizing that the master plan will transform Werribee South Beach into a must-visit destination for all residents. She highlighted the numerous benefits that will be enjoyed by visitors, including improved amenities, enhanced public access, and more opportunities for recreational activities along Wyndham’s coastal precinct.
Mayor McIntyre acknowledged the extensive community engagement process undertaken by Wyndham City to ensure the Master Plan reflects the desires and needs of the residents. She expressed gratitude to those who provided valuable feedback, underscoring that their input played a crucial role in shaping the plan.
The Werribee South Beach Master Plan aligns with Wyndham’s broader Coastal and Marine Management Plan, signifying a significant step towards the realization of the city’s vision for its coastal areas. Excitement is building as the first stage of works is set to commence, promising improved walking and cycling access, an enhanced foreshore experience, and enriched opportunities for fishing, a beloved pastime for many Wyndham locals.
