Better access for Werribee boaters
The Werribee South boat ramp is set for a major upgrade as part of the Victorian Government’s latest investment in recreational boating infrastructure. A total of $36.3 million from the Better Boating Fund will support improvements across the state, including a $2.2 million project at this popular launching site in Melbourne’s west.

The planned upgrades at Werribee South aim to reduce congestion and improve access for boaters. Key features include an additional ramp lane, a new accessible pontoon, and reconfigured entry points to minimise queues onto Beach Road. Car park and access lane improvements will help with traffic flow and provide a small number of extra trailer parking spaces.
The project will also include better boat preparation areas, allowing boaters to rig their vessels away from high-traffic zones.
The Better Boating Fund is financed through recreational boating licence and registration fees and reinvested into local infrastructure. Since its launch in 2021, the fund has backed over 50 ramp upgrades across Victoria, including sites in St Leonards, Lake Bullen Merri, Clifton Springs, and Inverloch.
In addition to Werribee South, major works are also planned for:
Limeburners Point (Geelong)
Schnapper Point (Mornington)
Tooradin
Port Welshpool
A brand-new ramp at Howqua Inlet, Lake Eildon, featuring a concrete ramp and asphalt parking
A further $1 million has been set aside for ramp maintenance and dredging, available through competitive grants for facility managers. Planning is also beginning for improvements at seven more locations across the state.
The latest Better Boating Fund Action Plan also supports initiatives to boost boating safety, improve navigation aids, deliver education clinics, and encourage more women to participate in recreational boating.
