After more than four decades without a major upgrade, Werribee Station is set for improvement works from 2027 as the State Government begins planning for the station’s future.
The plans were announced earlier this week by Member for Werribee John Lister, with scoping now underway for the first round of works.
The works are expected to focus on accessibility, passenger comfort, station amenity and information displays, although the exact scope, funding figure and completion date have not yet been announced.
At the same time, Transport Victoria will begin community consultation in October to help determine what further improvements could be made to Werribee Station and the surrounding precinct.
Train and bus passengers, pedestrians, motorists and cyclists will be invited to provide feedback, with safety and accessibility among the areas being considered.
The initial works are expected to begin in 2027 while consultation and planning for longer-term improvements continue.
The announcement comes ahead of Victoria’s state election in November, as Labor continues to roll out commitments and infrastructure announcements across Melbourne’s west.
Werribee Station last underwent a major upgrade in 1983, when the current station building was constructed as part of the electrification of the line to Werribee.
