State Grant Boosts Werribee Coast Guard's Emergency Response Capabilities
The Werribee Volunteer Coast Guard has secured a $98,251 grant through the Volunteer Emergency Services Equipment Program (VESEP) to purchase a new truck. This funding is part of a program designed to equip volunteer emergency services with the tools needed to effectively assist their communities during emergencies.

The coast guard has emphasized that the new vehicle will significantly enhance their ability to launch and retrieve their vessel and transport it to locations where it may be required. This improvement is seen as a critical step in ensuring their operations are efficient and safe.
Since the start of the year, the flotilla has undertaken 90 taskings, with 38 occurring since July. Operating a volunteer coast guard unit involves substantial expenses, including repairs, maintenance, and ongoing training. The unit highlights the need for consistent funding and community support to ensure they can continue providing effective and safe services. Despite their essential role, they acknowledge that they are less well-known than other volunteer emergency organizations such as the CFA or SES, making awareness and investment even more important.
As the busy summer season approaches, the coast guard is encouraging the community to prioritise safety. Boaters are urged to ensure they have proper safety equipment, maintain their vessels in good condition, and understand what to do in case of an emergency, as part of efforts to reduce risks on the water.
