Grab a Book This Winter
Wyndham adults are being encouraged to slow down, switch off and spend more time reading this winter as part of the Warm Winter Read challenge through Wyndham City Libraries.
Running from 1 June until 31 August, the program encourages adults to make reading part of their weekly routine during the colder months, whether that means revisiting old favourites, trying a new genre or simply spending less time on screens.
Participants can track their reading online or complete a Warm Winter Read booklet available from local libraries, with prizes also up for grabs throughout the challenge.
Wyndham City Libraries are also offering reading inspiration from a range of Australian authors covering fantasy, romance, crime, comedy, science fiction, house and garden writing and more, giving readers plenty of ideas if they are unsure what to pick up next.
As part of the program, cosy crime writer Kate Solly will appear at Hoppers Crossing Library on 13 June from 10.30am to 11.30am to discuss her latest novel, The Paradise Heights Miniature Railway Bust-Up.
Residents are invited to bring along crochet or stitching projects or simply sit back and enjoy the discussion. Bookings are required.
The challenge comes as libraries continue promoting reading as a simple way for adults to relax, improve concentration and take a break from busy day-to-day routines, particularly during winter when more people are spending time indoors.
More information and registrations are available via Wyndham Warm Winter Read and Kate Solly Author Talk.
