A woman has been taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries after she received significant burns in Werribee South this morning 28th December 2022.

Police have been told the 32-year-old Werribee South woman was in the front yard of a home in Rivercoast Road when the incident occurred at about 2am.

Detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, which is believed to have occurred following a dispute.

A male at the scene who identified himself as the woman’s brother said an argument broke out at the party between a man and a woman and his sister.

His sister was trying to calm the situation down when she was doused with fuel and set alight.

The badly burned woman was airlifted to a hospital in Melbourne.

Two other people received minor injuries during the incident.

A 43-year-old man and a 45-year-old woman, both from Werribee South, are continuing to assist police with enquiries.

A crime scene has been established and the investigation is being led by the Arson and Explosives Squad (however, members of the Homicide Squad did attend last night for the initial call-out)

Anyone who witnessed the incident or with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or log on to www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
