Wyndham City and Victoria Police Join Forces to Keep Kids Safe

This month, Wyndham City and Victoria Police have come together to enforce all aspects of road safety outside schools.

This is part of the ‘Back to School‘ operation, which builds on the success of the ‘Keep Them Safe Outside the School Gate‘ campaign. The operation involves Victoria Police‘s Highway Patrol officers monitoring driver behaviour, such as the use of seat belts, legal parking, and observing reduced speed zones at peak periods.

Additionally, both organisations are working to educate parents and guardians about the safety of children around school zones.

Cr Susan McIntyre, Wyndham City Mayor and Community Safety portfolio holder, commented on the importance of driver safety. She said, “We all need to prioritise driver safety, especially during peak pick–up and drop–off periods. Traffic can become congested and drivers need to be aware of safe parking and traffic flows around schools.”

The Road Safety Strategy and Action Plan 2022–2032 outlines the need to work with road safety partners, such as Victoria Police, to address issues like speeding and running red lights.

Cr McIntyre reminded everyone that creating a safe road network is everyone’s responsibility, and urged everyone to work together to ensure that everyone arrives safely at school and home.
