Wyndham City Expands Inclusive Sports Programs for People with Disabilities

Disabled sports

New initiatives promote accessible sports opportunities across Wyndham, encouraging participation from individuals with disabilities in local activities.

Wyndham City is encouraging residents to engage in a range of sporting activities designed to be inclusive and accessible for individuals with disabilities. This initiative is part of a broader effort to highlight the opportunities available in the community and ensure everyone can participate in physical activities.

In partnership with Get Skilled Access, Wyndham City has hosted a Sport4All Inclusion Coach for the past 18 months. The coach has worked with local schools and organisations to foster a greater understanding of how to create welcoming and safe environments for people with disabilities. The goal is to build the skills and confidence necessary for inclusivity in sports.

More than 20 local sports and physical activity organisations are currently involved in the Sport4All disability inclusion program, offering a wide range of options for individuals with disabilities. Activities include basketball at Eagle Stadium in Werribee, netball and circus programs in Hoppers Crossing, and a football (soccer) program in Point Cook.

In addition to promoting physical fitness, these activities provide valuable social opportunities, allowing participants to connect with others and form new friendships. To further encourage community involvement, Wyndham City has released a social media video titled “I can play MY way,” showcasing the variety of inclusive sporting options available across the city.

Residents are also being reminded of the opportunities for individuals with disabilities to become more involved in the sports community, whether as coaches, referees, volunteers, or committee members. Wyndham City remains committed to ensuring that everyone, regardless of ability, can fully participate in the local sporting landscape.
