Last month, Wyndham City held a forum on affordable housing at the Encore Events Centre. Mayor Cr Susan McIntyre opened the event, which brought together 100 stakeholders, and was part of Wyndham‘s Affordable Housing Strategy.
The panel of four housing professionals provided their knowledge and spoke about the shortage of one and two–bedroom homes in the area.
The panellists were Robert Pradolin from Housing All Australians, Rachel Hornsby from Hornsby & Co and Shorna Moore and Glen Dyke from Melbourne City Mission.
The Mayor highlighted the rental crisis Australia is facing and the social and economic impacts it has. Although providing affordable housing is not a local government responsibility, Council is committed to advocating and facilitating opportunities to encourage it.
The forum was filled with productive discussions and high engagement from participants, providing Council with a wealth of information and ideas.
For the past 15 years, Wyndham City has been actively working with the Health, Homelessness, and Housing Alliance to support those in need or vulnerable.
