The charging speed will vary depending on the vehicle; however, it can generally deliver up to 400km of driving range per hour of charge.

How do I use the charger?

The charging station is currently operated via the Chargefox software and drivers can start and pay for a charging session via the Chargefox app (available from Apple and Android app stores). The charger also has an RFID card system, giving drivers an option to pay via credit card.

Yes, along with all of Council’s electricity use, the charging station is powered by 100% renewable energy. The charging station is also co-located with a 60kWp solar carport and a 30kWp roof mounted solar system generating renewable energy locally at the site.

What are the benefits of electric vehicles?

There are several benefits of electric vehicles:

  • Economic – Electric vehicle owners may realise operational cost savings from greater engine efficiency and a reduction in fuel and maintenance costs
  • Environment – Electric vehicles have zero greenhouse gas emissions when they are powered by 100% renewable energy
  • Public Health – Electric vehicles improves air quality and amenity through reduced air and noise pollution (electric vehicles have no tailpipe emissions and emits minimal noise)

Why is Council installing electric vehicle chargers?

Installing the charging station at Bembit Bag-rook is part of Wyndham City Council’s plan to promote the uptake of electric vehicles and support the transition to a zero-emission transport sector. It also addresses the significant shortfall of public charging stations in Melbourne’s west and allows Wyndham’s current and future electric vehicle owners to travel in their community without experiencing range anxiety.

The Bembit Bag-rook charging station, is the second of a number of electric vehicles charging stations Council is installing in Wyndham and the first fast-charging station. Wyndham City Council Officers will continue to investigate further opportunities for electric charging infrastructure provision to support our transition to a zero-emission community.

Wyndham City recently posted on their Facebook page that the charging would be free for an introductory period.
