Former Wyndham mayor and community champion Bob Fairclough remembered for his dedication and lasting impact.

The Wyndham community is mourning the loss of former mayor and long-serving councillor Bob Fairclough, who passed away on Thursday, January 30.

Bob immigrated from New Zealand to Australia in 1984 and brought with him a passion for education and public service. He earned a PhD from Auckland University and later became an adjunct professor at Victoria University, where he supervised 14 doctoral students and contributed to 92 research papers.

For 11 years, Bob served as a councillor at Wyndham City Council and was elected mayor in 2013. That same year, he was awarded the Order of Australia for his contributions to the community and education.

Beyond his political service, Bob was deeply involved in local sports and community initiatives. The Point Cook Cricket Club paid tribute to his unwavering support, recognising his role in securing their home at Saltwater Reserve and naming the Under 11 Scholarship award in his honour. He remained a regular at club events and presentations, always advocating for the community.

Wyndham councillor and friend Susan McIntyre expressed her shock and sadness at his passing, describing Bob as a tireless advocate who always had the community at heart. “Bob’s kindness, dedication, and generosity will be greatly missed,” she said. “His legacy lives on.”

Even in his final days, Bob remained committed to his community, working to secure the future of the Point Cook Multicultural Lunar Festival for 2025. His passion and dedication to Wyndham will not be forgotten.
