In Trouble Over Inferno

Three Wyndham men have been charged over an alleged suspicious fire at a Cremorne gym last month.

Detectives from the Yarra Crime Investigation Unit executed three search warrants across Melbourne’s western suburbs on 28 August, arresting three men from Hoppers Crossing and Truganina.

Police allege the trio forced their way into an unoccupied gym on Church Street in Cremorne about 1am on 22 July, before setting fire to the premises and fleeing in a vehicle.

A 19-year-old Hoppers Crossing man has been charged with criminal damage by fire, burglary, possessing drugs of dependence and possessing a handgun.

Police also seized a firearm and a quantity of methylamphetamine from a property in Hoppers Crossing during the investigation.

Two 20-year-old men, one from Hoppers Crossing and another from Truganina, have each been charged with criminal damage by fire and burglary.

No one was injured during the fire.

All three men are due to appear before the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 28 August.
