Wyndham Unveils State Election Wishlist

A Way Forward For Wyndham

In short:

Wyndham has unveiled 16 priority projects ahead of the Victorian election, including new train stations, Wyndham Vale line electrification and major road upgrades. The push comes as at least one Wyndham electorate is expected to be decided by a narrow margin.

Major Projects Needed For Rapidly Growing City

Wyndham City Council has unveiled its wishlist ahead of the 2026 Victorian election, calling on all parties and candidates to commit to a series of major transport, health and community infrastructure projects across the municipality.

The advocacy campaign, titled A Way Forward for Wyndham, outlines 16 priority projects that council wants funded by the next state government.

The projects include the proposed Wyndham Ring Road, Outer Metropolitan Ring Road, upgrades to key arterial roads, three new train stations at Truganina, Black Forest Road and Sayers Road, redevelopment of Werribee Station and electrification of the Wyndham Vale line.

Rail Upgrades and Recreational Facilities Prioritised

Council is also seeking funding for several major community projects, including the proposed Riverdale Aquatic Centre, Tarneit Indoor Sports Facility, Point Cook Indoor Sports Centre, The Big Shed community event space, Point Cook Homestead Precinct and netball court canopy upgrades.

In health, council is advocating for long-term funding certainty for Mercy Hospital and a new mental health service in Wyndham North.

Population Growth Outpacing Investment

Wyndham Deputy Mayor Jasmine Hill said the municipality was facing growing pressure on roads, public transport, healthcare and community infrastructure.

“Our roads are congested, our trains are overcrowded, our families wait too long for health care and community facilities.

There is a way forward for Wyndham, but it requires the State Government to invest in our future.

This election, we are asking every candidate, every party, to support our campaign and priorities.”

History Preservation Requested ahead of Historic Election

The campaign comes ahead of what is shaping as a significant Victorian election, with the Labor Government seeking a fourth consecutive term after first winning office in 2014.

Several western suburbs seats are expected to be closely watched. Werribee is widely regarded as one of the state’s most marginal electorates following the 2025 by-election, while Point Cook is also being closely monitored amid speculation it could become more competitive.

Tarneit and Laverton could also experience notable swings as cost-of-living pressures, infrastructure concerns and population growth continue to dominate local debate.

Council plans to host candidate forums across Wyndham’s electorates in November, giving residents an opportunity to hear directly from those seeking election before Victorians head to the polls on 28 November 2026.
