Detectives probe link between stabbing and fire
Police are investigating whether a suspicious house fire in Wyndham Vale is connected to a stabbing less than 12 hours earlier.
Emergency services were called to Fritelli Court about 4.15am on 5 September after reports of a house on fire. Fire crews contained the blaze, but the property was badly damaged. Detectives are treating the fire as suspicious and are working to establish how it started and whether it links to other recent incidents.
The fire came after a violent confrontation on Arbory Walk, off Fritelli Circuit, about 5.05pm on 4 September. A woman was discovered with serious stab wounds and received urgent treatment from paramedics before being taken by road ambulance to Eagle Stadium in Werribee. An air ambulance had landed there, and she was transferred into the helicopter and flown to hospital.
At the scene, police cordoned off the area where a black jacket and blood-stained towels were left on the grass. Red and blue lights lit up the street as SES crews brought in floodlights to assist investigators.
Police believe the parties involved in the stabbing are known to each other. Both matters remain under investigation, with detectives considering whether the stabbing and fire are connected.
