During Homelessness Week, from Monday 7 August to Sunday 13 August, Wyndham City’s Community Centres are stepping up to support individuals experiencing homelessness and to shed light on the impact of homelessness in Australia.
Ahead of Homelessness Week, Wyndham City is organizing a donation drive across various community centres to collect essential long-life food and personal care items. Additionally, locals are encouraged to participate in creating origami paper houses, which will be exhibited at Parliament House to raise awareness for the 30,000 Victorians facing homelessness.
Throughout Homelessness Week, Wyndham City’s Community Centres will host three events. Among these, a poignant film screening of ‘Under Cover,’ an Australian documentary showcasing the lives of diverse women over 50 enduring homelessness.
The city will also host a Community Morning Tea at Manor Lakes Community Learning Centre and a Community Dinner at Dianella Community Centre. Both events will feature a panel of H3 Alliance guest speakers, and attendees will assist in assembling dignity packs from donated items.
Wyndham City Mayor, Cr Susan McIntyre, expressed gratitude for the community’s compassion and care for those facing hardships. She urged everyone to get involved in supporting the most vulnerable members of the community by donating items, volunteering time, or participating in the week’s activities.
