Young Writers Called To Compete

In short:

Young Victorians aged 5 to 18 are being invited to enter Wyndham Libraries’ Imagination Creation Writing Competition, with prizes on offer for the best poems and short stories.

Young Wordsmiths Encouraged to Have a go

Young writers across Wyndham are being encouraged to put pen to paper, with entries now open for Wyndham City Libraries’ annual Imagination Creation Writing Competition.

The competition is open to Victorian students aged between five and 18 who either live or study in the state, giving aspiring authors and poets a chance to have their work recognised.

Entrants can submit one short story and one poem, with categories split into three age groups: 5–10 years, 11–14 years and 15–18 years.

Prizes will be awarded for the best poem and best short story in each age category, with organisers hoping to uncover the next generation of storytellers.

Unlike many writing competitions, participants are free to explore any theme or subject, allowing young people to draw on their imagination, personal experiences or creative ideas.

The competition has become a regular fixture on the local calendar and provides an opportunity for young writers to showcase their talents beyond the classroom.

Families, teachers and schools are also being encouraged to support young people interested in writing by helping spread the word about the competition.

Entries close on 15 July 2026.

More information, including entry requirements and submission details, is available through Wyndham City Libraries.
